Joining the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge in a community-wide Peace Pole initiative, FranU will dedicate its new Peace Pole on May 5 at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Francis Hall green space.

A Peace Pole is a monument that displays the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in the local language, plus several additional languages meaningful to the community. The message was originally authored by Masahisa Goi of Japan after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and today more than 250,000 Peace Poles stand in communities around the world as symbols of unity and hope.

Rotary clubs across many districts have adopted Peace Poles as a visible expression of Rotary’s commitment to peacebuilding, conflict resolution and global understanding.

Rotary’s Peace Pole initiatives aim to:

  • Promote peace and cross-cultural understanding.
  • Create visible reminders of Rotary’s peace mission.
  • Bring communities together through installation ceremonies.
  • Inspire reflection, unity and dialogue.
  • Connect local clubs to a global peace movement.
